We know from the weapon light discussion that the typical household flashlight is somewhere between 5 and 15 lumens.  This is ideal for small spaces or spaces with a lot of glass where you don't want a lot of light bouncing back at you.

When needing a light for open spaces, you want a beam that will be significantly brighter than one you will use inside.  Since it is not always advantageous to use your high powered weapon light for this purpose (remember, pointing a weapon at something you don't want to shoot is not recommended) this is where the unique light like the Surefire Fury comes in.

The Surefire P2X Fury gives you the option (using the click-type tail cap switch) of choosing between a 15 lumen interior led flashlight and a high-powered 500 lumen LED light.  Run-time is dependent on what setting you are using.  Obviously if you use it more at the 500 lumen level it will eat batteries like a buffet goer (so stock up) but will last about 46 hours at the 15 lumen setting.
